...on building a chicken coop.

Recently I've been thinking about several different building projects I'd like to try and tackle sometime. One such project is a proper chicken coop, but also some  better shelters for the other animals we care for and even a small cabin to use as a retreat. No matter which project though I choose to start they all have one thing in common that needs addressing before starting. You guessed it, whether a chicken coop or small cabin they all require a foundation.

This past Sunday our Pastor mentioned Matthew 6:33 in reference to being a disciple of Christ. The verse says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Pastor's point was in order to be a proper disciple you need to be seeking, but not seeking God second or third in your life, but seeking him first. There is a priority commanded here.
This made me think about those foundations. In planning and constructing a building the foundation takes first priority. It is the most important feature of the building. The first part to be started and completed before the rest can be set upon it.

How is a foundation important? Well we know that it is the foundation that hold up the building, gives its structure integrity, and sees it through the seasons. This led me to that other section of scripture Matthew 7:24-27 where Jesus tells us that whoever hears and does as he commands is as the wise man who built his house upon a rock and when the storms came it fell not, because his house was founded upon a rock compared to the foolish man who built his house upon the sand and when the storms came it fell.
In life, storms are going to come, make sure your on the right foundation, Jesus our Lord, and you too will weather through the storms by being founded, well footed, on the Rock; and in doing so be counted among the wise.                                                        RJK    02/24/09
